Putting on My Big Girl Panties and Taking the Plunge

5 09 2008

Over the weekend I am planning on moving from a free blog to a self-hosted blog. I will still be Little Miss Drama Pants and the url will still be http://littledramapants.com. If at some point over the weekend the blog is messed up or you can’t get to it, don’t panic. It’ll just be in transition. Hopefully the only thing that you might have to do is update your RSS feeder.

See you at the new place!

I did some dyeing over the weekend. The Boy even got in on the action and dyed up some handspun I had. I’ll have more pictures soon.

Labor Day Goodness

2 09 2008

Yesterday was one of those days that are just perfect. I spent the whole day in my pajamas and didn’t bother to put on a bra until almost 4:30. The weather was fantastic and it was just one of those awesome lazy days. B started smoking meat around 10:30 am and I spent the better half of the morning looking at wordpress themes. [aside: I'm planning on changing the blog from free to self-hosted over the coming weekend. The web address will stay the same, but if you are following me on an RSS feeder, you will probably need to update that. /aside]

The second half of the day, I spent outside with B while he kept an eye on the meat. It was awesome. We drank beer and enjoyed the weather. We talked about plans for the house and ourselves – individually and as a couple. Or at least we tried:

Me: Can you please stop grabbing your crotch? I’m trying to have a semi-serious conversation with you!

B: I can’t do that. I’ve been drinking since noon.

Me: All right, fine. Can you stop saying “Woo!” when you grab your crotch?

B: Yeah, I can do that.

Dear Magic Blocking Fairy,

1 09 2008

I owe you a BIG apology. After I finished the Flower Basket Shawl, I agonized for weeks as to whether or not it would block out big enough. It just didn’t seem possible! What was I thinking?! I just KNEW I hadn’t made it big enough for my SMIL and that it would only block out big enough for my 8 year old niece. I just KNEW you wouldn’t be able to help.

And I was WRONG. So very very wrong.

Flower Basket Shawl

Please forgive me? I will never doubt you again, Magic Blocking Fairy.

Love,
Miss Pants

PS> Have you done something different with your hair because it looks fantastic!

Rediscovering My Love of Knitting

28 08 2008

Wanna hear something crazy?

After writing my own sock pattern and being really excited about it, I got burnt out on knitting. I’d just finished my first major lace project (technically not finished because I haven’t blocked it) as well. I would look at my yarn and all my projects in various stages of progress and just go hhhhhhhhhhhhhuuuuuuuuuuugghh…

Well, I decided to give knitting a rest and get back into reading, so I picked up where I left off reading Stephanie Pearl-McPhee Casts Off: The Yarn Harlot’s Guide to the Land of Knitting. And as usual, I love her writing. I’m terrified of her blog right now, but that’s no one’s fault but my own. I just need to lock myself in the computer room with a big mug of tea and sit and read the 65 posts I’m behind.

Anyway, I digress. This turned out to be the perfect book for me to pick up and read because it led me back to my love of knitting. I mean, who would have thought a book about knitting would make me want to knit, you know?

I decided that what I really needed was something simple and relaxing. Something that didn’t require much thought but would give me great joy. And that’s when I remembered it.

B’s scarf.

Awhile back, I bought some Nashua Handknits Snowbird yarn – 2 skeins of aqua and 2 skeins of pink. It’s a squooshy, fat(heavy worsted/aran) wool/alpaca blend that is so very retro looking. It’s actually yarn that B actually picked out. I didn’t have anything in mind for it, I just liked it so I bought it and decided to let it tell me what it was going to be.

Well, fast forward to a few months later. B and I were discussing what I could knit for him that he would actually wear and he said that he would like a scarf. We went back and forth on what he wanted out of a scarf and it turned out to be a simple garter stitch scarf. So we went stash diving. He picked out the Nashua Handknits Snowbird in Aqua and I worked on it for awhile until it got set aside for something else.

Well last night after reading more of the Yarn Harlot’s book, I realized that what I needed to do was to pick up that scarf again and just do some simple, mindless knitting. So that’s what I did. I went and got it out of the yarn cabinet and started knitting. I knit through two solid hours of Bones (swoon!) and part of the evening news. I finally forced myself to set it down to go to bed towards the end of the news.

Girlfriend’s got her mojo back.
